Colombo, Sep 13: In the India vs. Sri Lanka Super 4 match played in the Asia Cup, India defeated Sri Lanka by 41 runs. With this victory, India has confirmed its place in the final of Asia Cup 2023.
At the beginning of the game, India captain Rohit Sharma decided to bat first after winning the toss. Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma, who came to open for India, gave a very good start to the team. Both were scoring runs very fast and were causing a lot of trouble for the Sri Lankan bowlers.
There was a good partnership of 80 runs between Rohit and Gill but the Sri Lankan captain changed the bowling and handed the ball to 20-year-old young Sri Lankan bowler Dunith Wellalage and he claimed bowled Shubman Gill on the very first ball of his over and broke the partnership.
After this, Virat, who came to bat, was also dismissed by Wellalage in his next over, he did not stop there, in his third over he also clean-bowled Rohit Sharma who was looking set and Wellalage took three wickets in his first three overs.
However, India played the innings which appeared to be in a bit of trouble, but Sri Lankan bowlers dominated the entire innings and bowled out the entire Indian team for just 213 runs.
For India, Rohit scored 53 (48) and Rahul 39 (44), from Sri Lanka, their young bowler Dunith Wellalage took 5 wickets and M Theekshana took 4 wickets.
Sri Lanka’s opening batsman Pathum Nissanka And Dimuth Karunaratne start the second innings. Sri Lanka was expecting a good start from both of them but Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Nissanka on the first ball of his second over and gave a good start to India.
Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Kusal Mendis for 15 runs in his third over, after which Indian fast bowler Siraj also dismissed Dimuth Karunaratne in the very next over and put Sri Lanka in big trouble.
By this time Sri Lanka’s score was 40/3 in the powerplay and the team was in a lot of trouble.
Before Sri Lanka could handle its innings, Kuldeep Yadav took two more wickets.
In the end, despite a lot of efforts, Sri Lanka could not manage its innings and lost the match by 41 runs.
For Sri Lanka, Dunith Wellalage took 42 (46) and Dhananjaya de Silva 41 (66) runs, while for India, Kuldeep Yadav took 4 wickets and Jadeja – Bumrah took 2 wickets each.
With this win, India has confirmed its place in the final of Asia Cup 2023 by defeating defending champions Sri Lanka. Now, India’s next match, which is the last match of Super 4, will be played against Bangladesh on 15th September.
