1 Oct: Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has hinted that the upcoming World Cup could be his last World Cup for India. Ashwin has been included in the Indian squad for the event in place of Axar Patel, who has been ruled out due to a quadricep strain.
Ashwin made this admission during the pre-match chat ahead of India’s first warm-up match against England. He stressed the importance of enjoying the tournament, suggesting that this could be his last World Cup representing India.
He expressed his surprise at his inclusion in the squad, saying that he did not initially expect to be a part of the World Cup squad. Ashwin has played 10 matches for India in World Cup history, with his last appearance in the tournament coming in 2015. In those matches, he has taken 17 wickets at an average of 24.88 and an economy rate of 4.36.

Apart from Virat Kohli, Ashwin is the only member of the current Indian team who was part of India’s World Cup-winning campaign in 2011. He stressed the importance of handling pressure in such tournaments and expressed confidence in his ability to perform under pressure.
It remains to be seen how Ashwin will perform in the upcoming World Cup and whether this indeed turns out to be his last appearance in the tournament representing India.
