Los Angeles, December 16: Hollywood actor Dwayne Johnson is all set to play the role of mixed martial arts fighter Mark Kerr in the upcoming film ‘The Smashing Machine’, as announced by A24. Directed by filmmaker Benny Safdie, the film explores Kerr’s life at the height of his career in 2000, chronicling his triumphs, relationships, friendships, and battle with addiction. Mark Kerr, now 54, earned the nickname “The Smashing Machine” due to his aggressive fighting style, capturing more than two dozen MMA titles and notable championships.
A24 expressed excitement about Johnson and Safdie’s collaboration, emphasizing their unique talents and sharing Kerr’s vision for bringing her inspiring story to the screen. The project marks Benny Safdie’s first solo effort as both a writer and director. The film is produced by Johnson, Safdie, Danny Garcia, Eli Bush and David Coplan.
