Vivek Ramaswamy, the Indian-American entrepreneur, has withdrawn from the 2024 presidential race following a fourth-place finish in the Republican Iowa caucuses, widely seen as a pivotal early indicator. The outcome of the Iowa caucus solidified former president Donald Trump’s position as the frontrunner after a decisive victory.
Acknowledging the lack of a viable path to the presidency, Ramaswamy expressed his support for Trump, emphasizing the need for an “America-First patriot in the White House.” In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), the 38-year-old entrepreneur conceded that his campaign fell short of expectations but pledged to contribute to Trump’s efforts to secure the presidency.
“This entire campaign is about speaking the TRUTH. We did not achieve our goal tonight, & we need an America-First patriot in the White House. The people spoke loud & clear about who they want. Tonight I am suspending my campaign and endorsing Donald J. Trump and will do everything I can to make sure he is the next U.S. President,” he announced.
Despite initially indicating a need to process the Iowa results, Ramaswamy later reassured his supporters on social media that this setback marked the “beginning of a new road” rather than the end. Throughout his self-funded campaign, Ramaswamy had staunchly defended Trump, even pledging to pardon the former president of any charges on his first day in office. He had appeared alongside Trump at rallies, emphasizing their united commitment to the campaign’s goals.
In his final campaign remarks in Iowa, Ramaswamy stated, “I looked at every which way, and I think it’s true that we did not achieve the surprise that we wanted to deliver tonight… As of this moment, we are going to suspend this presidential campaign.” Despite the setback, he urged supporters not to despair and emphasized the collective effort needed to “save our country.”
