Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is on a visit to Manipur today, Monday. Before that, he landed at Kumbhirgram airport in Assam’s Cachar district around 9:30 today, where he was warmly welcomed by Congress workers. Congress leaders from Assam and Manipur welcomed Rahul Gandhi on his arrival in Silchar.
From the airport, Rahul Gandhi left for Jiribam in Manipur by road. Rahul Gandhi will visit the camps in Manipur to meet the camps where the victims of Manipur violence have taken refuge. Let it be known that after the killing of a 59-year-old farmer Soibam Saratkumar Singh in Jiribam on June 6, violence has erupted there again.
According to sources, Rahul is likely to meet the Governor of Manipur on Monday evening and will visit Nagaland thereafter.

Earlier, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Monday met flood-affected people in Assam’s Cachar district. He visited the relief camp to meet the Assam flood victims living in the relief camp at Phulertal. About 23 lakh people are affected by the floods in Assam. Rahul Gandhi is visiting the Northeast for the first time after becoming the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
Rahul Gandhi is visiting Assam at a time when the state has experienced severe floods due to torrential rains for several days. Torrential rains have led to overflowing rivers and landslides.
About 22.70 lakh people in 28 districts have been affected by this flood. From Jiribam, Rahul Gandhi will return to Assam’s Silchar airport after which he will fly to Imphal for the next leg of his Manipur tour. Communal violence between Maitei and Kuki communities in Manipur has been going on since May 3 last year and more than 200 people have lost their lives in these clashes so far.
