Today marks 10 years of the launch of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana in the country. This scheme was launched on 28 August 2014 with the aim of economically empowering the poor during the first term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed happiness on the completion of the 10th anniversary of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana and termed this day as a historic day through an X post, while Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has clarified the entire picture of change by presenting statistics.
On the social media platform ‘X’, PM Modi shared a post and congratulated the beneficiaries and while sharing the post wrote, we are celebrating an important occasion today. 10 years of Jan Dhan Yojana completed. Congratulations to all the beneficiaries and also to all those who worked to make this scheme a success. Jan Dhan Yojana has been paramount in promoting financial inclusion and economically empowering and giving respect to crores of people, especially women, poor brothers and sisters, marginalized communities and youth.

Earlier, while giving information about the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said that 53.13 crore Jan Dhan accounts have been opened for the poor in the last 10 years and Rs 2.3 lakh crore is deposited in it. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that our target is to open more than three crore PMJDY accounts during the current financial year. He said that PMJDY is one of the world’s largest financial inclusion initiatives.
On the completion of a decade of Jan Dhan Yojana, the country’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has shared important statistics related to it and said that it has been successful. According to the Finance Minister, 53.13 crore Jan Dhan accounts have been opened for the poor in the last 10 years and about 80 percent of the accounts are still active. As of August 14, 2024, more than Rs 2.31 lakh crore is deposited in these accounts. Nirmala Sitharaman said that 67 percent of the Jan Dhan accounts opened were in rural and semi-urban areas, of which 55 percent are women account holders.
Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) is one of the ambitious schemes of the central government, which was started by the government on 28 August 2014 and today this scheme has completed 10 years. The government has been successful in connecting the poor and deprived sections of the country to the banking system through the Jan Dhan Yojana. Along with this, the benefits of social security schemes are also being delivered to the beneficiaries directly through Direct Bank Transfer i.e. DBT under this scheme.
