Amazon India announced on Thursday that it has created over 110,000 seasonal job opportunities across its operations network in preparation for the upcoming festive season. The e-commerce giant has hired thousands of women associates and nearly 1,900 persons with disabilities (PWD) for roles within its existing network. The company also mentioned that it has already onboarded a majority of these new hires.
Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Labour and Employment, praised Amazon’s efforts, stating, “It is encouraging to see the company hiring a significant number of women and persons with disabilities for these roles while prioritizing the well-being of its associates through initiatives focused on their safety, healthcare, and educational support.”
The seasonal job opportunities span direct and indirect roles in various cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, and Chennai, among others. Abhinav Singh, Vice President of Operations at Amazon India, noted that many of these associates continue to work with Amazon beyond the festive season, and several return each year to work with the company. Dr. Mandaviya commended Amazon’s commitment to creating over 100,000 seasonal employment opportunities across India, calling it a commendable move to strengthen the nation’s workforce during the festive period.
To support the well-being of its associates, Amazon India has launched several initiatives, such as Project Ashray, which provides dedicated resting points for delivery associates in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. The global e-commerce company also recently announced that it is on track to help Indian businesses surpass $13 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports from India by the end of the year.
Since the launch of the ‘Amazon Global Selling’ program in 2015, 1.5 lakh exporters have collectively sold over 40 crore ‘Made in India’ products to customers worldwide. Over the past year, the total seller base participating in the program has grown by 20 percent.
