On March 4, 2025, President Donald Trump announced the capture of Muhammad Sharifullah, an Afghan militant implicated in the 2021 Kabul airport bombing. This attack resulted in the deaths of 13 American service members and approximately 170 Afghan civilians during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Sharifullah, identified as a senior member of ISIS-K, was apprehended in Pakistan’s Balochistan province with assistance from U.S. intelligence agencies. He is currently being extradited to the United States to face charges, including providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization resulting in death.
In his address to Congress, President Trump expressed gratitude towards Pakistan for their cooperation, stating, “We have just apprehended the top terrorist responsible for that atrocity, and he is right now on his way here to face the swift sword of American justice.”
The arrest is viewed as a significant step in U.S.-Pakistan counterterrorism collaboration, potentially signaling improved relations between the two nations.
