Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Delhi for not fulfilling its election promise to provide free cooking gas cylinders to women during Holi. She questioned whether this pledge would be honored or dismissed as another unfulfilled commitment, similar to the BJP’s earlier promise of providing monthly financial assistance of ₹2,500 to women in Delhi.
In response, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva asserted that, unlike the AAP’s unfulfilled announcements, the BJP does not make promises without proper financial planning. He stated that the BJP government would soon provide free LPG cylinders to needy women on a priority basis during Holi and Diwali.
The BJP’s manifesto for the February 5 Delhi Assembly elections included a promise to offer cooking gas cylinders to women from economically weaker sections for ₹500, along with two free refills on Holi and Diwali. Additionally, the BJP government approved the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, aiming to provide ₹2,500 monthly assistance to women from poor families in Delhi, with a sanctioned budget of ₹5,100 crore. However, registration for this scheme has yet to commence.
Atishi’s remarks highlight the AAP’s ongoing scrutiny of the BJP’s commitments, urging the ruling party to fulfill its promises to the women of Delhi. The BJP, on the other hand, maintains that it is committed to delivering on its pledges with proper financial planning and will implement the promised schemes in due course.
