Girish Mathrubootham, CEO of NASDAQ-listed software firm Freshworks, stated on Wednesday that he has reserved 2,200 tickets for Rajinikanth’s film ‘Jailer’ for the company’s employees across seven screens.
This is not the first time the Freshworks CEO has screened a Thalaivar film to his employees on its first day of release. The entrepreneur, a self-avowed Rajinikanth devotee, granted employees time off to see the 2016 film ‘Kabali’ on its first day of theatrical release.
Mathrubootham has reserved the whole Sathyam theatre chain in Chennai for his staff to see “Kabali.” The entrepreneur also granted his employees time off to witness the 2014 flicks ‘Lingaa’ and ‘Kochadaiiyan’ on their first days of release.
Jailer Release Date
The black comedy-action film ‘Jailer,’ starring Rajinikanth and Mohanlal, was released in theatres in India and around the world on August 10 to widespread acclaim.
Jailer advance bookings, box office forecast
As of Wednesday night, the film has received a large number of advance bookings. According to Manobala Vijayabalan, a cinema trade analyst, around 9 lakh Jailer tickets were booked on BookMyShow alone.
With this, the Nelson Dilipkumar-directed film outperformed Sunny Deol’s ‘Gadar 2’ (about 3 lakh seats), Chiranjeevi’s ‘Bholaa Shankar’ (approximately 70,000 tickets), and Akshay Kumar’s ‘OMG 2’ (around 45,000 tickets).
Given the incredible advance booking figures, Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer’ is poised to break records. According to film critic and trade analyst Sumit Kadel, the Kalanithi Maran-backed picture is expected to earn between Rs 40 and Rs 45 crore in gross domestic box office revenues and between Rs 32 and Rs 35 crore in net domestic box office collections.
Kadel added that the film is projected to exceed the Rs 100 crore mark in India within the first four days of its release if there is favourable word of mouth for the Thalaivar film.
