San Francisco, December 15: Meta Threads has become available to 448 million Europeans. Regarding the availability of Meta’s X-rival Threads in the EU, Mark Zuckerberg announced that Threads is being launched in the EU. Mark Zuckerberg’s initiative brings Threads’ reach to more than 448 million Europeans. Mark Zuckerberg wrote, “Today we are launching Threads for more countries in Europe. You are all welcome.”
Threads is slated to launch in mid-2023 in more than 100 countries, including the UK and the US. After this, an important step has been taken by launching Threads in the European Union. In the European Union (EU), Meta allows users to browse threads without a profile.
According to The Verge report, Threads has been launched late in EU countries, blaming the Digital Markets Act for this. The Digital Markets Act has recently been introduced by the bloc. Due to this there has been a delay in launching Threads in European Union countries.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri blamed the late launch of Threads in EU countries on the complexities of complying with some laws that will come into effect next year.
Companies like Meta, designated as ‘gatekeepers’ under the DMA, can comply with its requirements by March 2024.
