Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, is significantly expanding its presence in India by establishing a new office in Bengaluru. This strategic move aims to enhance the company’s engineering and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities within the region.
Bengaluru: A New Engineering Hub
The upcoming Bengaluru center will focus on developing internal tools to boost productivity across Meta’s platforms. To spearhead this initiative, Meta is actively recruiting for 41 positions, including an engineering director responsible for building a robust technical team. This role is pivotal in shaping Meta’s long-term engineering operations in India.
Focus on AI and Infrastructure
In addition to software engineers, Meta is seeking hardware engineers to support its expanding AI infrastructure. These roles encompass data center operations and custom chip development, reflecting Meta’s commitment to advancing its AI capabilities.
Strategic Alignment with Global Initiatives

Notably, the company has announced the ambitious Waterworth Project, aiming to construct a 50,000-kilometer undersea cable connecting the U.S. with India, Brazil, South Africa, and other regions. This multibillion-dollar project is designed to improve global connectivity and support future AI innovation.
India: A Growing Tech Epicenter
By enhancing its operations in Bengaluru, Meta joins other tech giants like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon, which have established strong engineering and product teams in the region. This move underscores India’s significance as a burgeoning hub for technological development and innovation.
Through this strategic expansion, Meta aims to leverage India’s vast talent pool to drive advancements in engineering and AI, reinforcing its commitment to innovation and global connectivity.
