External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Maldives on Friday evening on a three-day official visit. S. Jaishankar was received by Maldives Foreign Minister Musa Zameer at Velana International Airport.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Maldives External Affairs Minister Musa Zameer inaugurated high impact community development projects in Malé, capital of Maldives. Along with this, the leaders of both the countries also exchanged memorandums of understanding. Jaishankar said on the occasion that he had meaningful and positive discussions with Jameer on many issues.

The leaders of the two countries jointly inaugurated six projects in the fields of street lighting, children’s speech therapy, mental health and special education.

External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said in a post on social media platform X late on Friday, “There was a meaningful and positive discussion on many issues with External Affairs Minister Musa Zameer today in Male.” This agenda included our stake in development partnerships, bilateral and regional security, capacity building, trade and digital cooperation. Apart from this, six high-impact projects were jointly inaugurated by the leaders of the two countries in the fields of street lighting, children’s speech therapy, mental health and special education.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the National Payments Corporation of India and the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Maldives on the introduction of a digital payment system in the Maldives. He welcomed the renewal of the MoU between the National Center for Good Governance and the Civil Service Commission on the training of an additional 1,000 civil service officers.
Earlier in January 2023, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar visited Maldives.
After his arrival, the Foreign Minister said in a post on social media platform X, “I am very happy to reach Maldives.” Thank you Foreign Minister Musa Zamir for welcoming me at the airport. Maldives holds an important place in our vision of ‘Neighborhood First’ and ‘Oceans’.
