Panaji, Nov 24: Ace actor Pankaj Tripathi shared deep insights on the art of acting during a masterclass at the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), organized in association with Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata.
Tripathi poetically said that the world is a theatre, where individuals play diverse roles in their lives. He emphasized that acting is the recreation of real human experiences and emotions. According to him, to excel in acting, one must cultivate empathy, step into the shoes of others to understand their thoughts, feelings and perspectives, ultimately becoming a better human being.
Highlighting the importance of coordination of body and mind for an authentic performance, Tripathi underlined the need for flexibility and an open mind to mold oneself as per the character being portrayed.
Highlighting the difference between a star and an actor, Tripathi said that an actor has the freedom to experiment with his roles, allowing creative exploration.
Reflecting on his own journey, especially the initial struggles, Tripathi admitted that in times of survival, acting may have taken a back seat. However, he stressed the important role of hope in pursuing his passion. Still, he cautioned that hope alone is not enough – self-assessment is also important. Aspiring actors and filmmakers were encouraged to thoroughly research, observe, and explore their surroundings and inner selves.
Tripathi shared a humble outlook on fame, explaining that fifteen years ago, he was unknown, and in the future, he may be forgotten. He stressed the need for awareness and vigilance regarding one’s power to prevent corruption.
Lastly, he said that life is meaningful when fame and money are used purposefully and for the greater good. Tripathi’s words serve as a guide for those seeking a meaningful and authentic journey into the world of acting and filmmaking.
