Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko was arrested on April 19, 2025, in Kochi following a narcotics raid at a hotel. He was charged under Sections 27 (consumption of narcotic drugs) and 29 (abetment and criminal conspiracy) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, as well as Section 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly attempting to destroy evidence.
After approximately four hours of police interrogation, Shine was released on conditional station bail. He underwent a medical examination, during which samples of his blood, urine, hair, saliva, and nail clippings were collected for forensic testing.
During questioning, Shine reportedly admitted to using narcotic substances on several occasions. He has also indicated plans to challenge the FIR filed against him in court.
The incident has garnered attention within the Malayalam film industry. Actress Vincy Aloshious filed a complaint with the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce and the Malayalam film industry’s internal complaint committee, accusing Shine of misbehaving on the set of the film ‘Suthravakyam’ while allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
Shine Tom Chacko’s brother, Joe John Chacko, responded to the allegations with sarcasm, questioning the plausibility of the claims and expressing skepticism about the reported ₹20,000 transaction with a known drug dealer.
Shine has been asked to appear before the police again on April 21, 2025, as investigations continue.
