New Delhi, December 19 (UITV)- India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held an important meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday. During this meeting, the two countries are expected to discuss maintaining peace on the Line of Actual Control (LAC), improving bilateral relations which have been strained for the last four years due to the military standoff in eastern Ladakh and various other issues. Doval was leading the Indian delegation and he visited China on Tuesday to participate in the 23rd round of talks of special representatives. This meeting is taking place after a gap of five years, as the last meeting was held in Delhi in 2019.
The talks started at 10 am Chinese time. During this, many other important issues were expected to be discussed to restore bilateral relations after the agreement between the two countries on the withdrawal of troops and patrolling from eastern Ladakh on October 21. After this meeting, relations between India and China are expected to improve, especially in the direction of reducing tension on the border.
Prior to this dialogue, China had issued a statement in which it said that it is ready to honor the commitments based on the consensus reached during the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan, Russia on October 24. When asked about the special representative talks at a press conference, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said that China is positively ready to resolve differences between the two countries.
This meeting was extremely important for both the countries, as the tension in the relations between the two countries had increased due to border tensions in the last few years. In 2020, the conflict between the soldiers in the Galvan Valley of eastern Ladakh had greatly affected the relations between the two countries. Since this conflict, there was tension on the border and the military standoff between the two countries also continued. In such a situation, this dialogue is being seen as an attempt to normalize the relations between the two countries.
This special representatives’ talks, attended by Doval and Wang Yi, can open up the possibility of better dialogue and cooperation between India and China in the future. Both countries have pledged to maintain peace on the border and resolve differences peacefully. Thus, this meeting can signal a new direction and improvement in bilateral relations.
