Aug 13 – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani has harshly denounced the IS militants’ deadly “terrorist” attack on a Syrian military transport in east Syria.
Kanaani made the remarks in a statement posted on the Ministry’s website on Saturday, expressing Iran’s sympathies for the Syrian government, people, and army.
He ascribed the recent increase in “terrorist” activities and attacks in Syria to continuous foreign support for “terrorist” groups with the goal of blocking complete stability and security in Syria, according to Xinhua news agency.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, IS militants ambushed the bus in the desert region of Al-Mayadeen city in Syria’s eastern province of Deir al-Zour early Friday, killing 33 soldiers.
According to the war monitor, the Friday incident brings the total number of fatalities due to growing IS strikes in the desert region to 420 since the beginning of 2023.
