In a historic achievement at the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj, 300 sanitation workers have set a Guinness World Record for the first-ever coordinated river cleaning effort. This monumental task took place across multiple sectors of the Ganga River during the festival.
Akanksha Rana, the CEO of the Maha Kumbh Mela, highlighted the significance of this accomplishment, stating, “Today marks a historic first in the world, where 300 sanitation workers have come together to clean the Ganga at various locations. This initiative aims to send a powerful message to the nation and the world: Keep our rivers and water bodies clean for the safety of all.”
Building on this momentum, the Mela administration plans to undertake further large-scale cleanliness initiatives. One such effort includes a street sweeping campaign involving 15,000 sanitation workers, aiming to set another world record and reinforce the commitment to maintaining cleanliness during the festival.
The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 has witnessed an overwhelming influx of devotees, with over 5.1 million pilgrims gathering on a single day to take a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam—the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers. Since the festival’s commencement, more than 491.4 million devotees have participated in the sacred bathing rituals.
To manage the massive crowds and ensure the safety of all attendees, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued strict directives regarding traffic management. Senior officers have been instructed to be present on the ground to prevent congestion in Prayagraj and surrounding districts, including Ayodhya and Varanasi. Officers will be held accountable for any traffic disruptions, underscoring the administration’s commitment to efficient crowd management during this significant event.
The combined efforts of the sanitation workers and the administrative directives not only highlight the importance of environmental conservation but also showcase the dedication to ensuring a safe and spiritually enriching experience for all pilgrims attending the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025.
