Following the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 individuals, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has directed all state governments to identify and ensure the prompt return of Pakistani nationals residing in their respective states.
This directive is part of a series of stringent measures adopted by the Indian government in response to the attack, which has been attributed to the militant group “Kashmir Resistance,” allegedly linked to Pakistan-based organizations.
Key Measures Implemented:
-
Visa Revocations: India has suspended all visa services for Pakistani nationals, with the exception of medical visas valid until April 29.
-
Border Closures: The Attari-Wagah land border crossing has been shut, and diplomatic ties have been downgraded, including the expulsion of Pakistani diplomats.
-
Indus Waters Treaty Suspension: India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, a significant water-sharing agreement with Pakistan, marking a historic first since its inception in 1960.
These actions underscore India’s firm stance against cross-border terrorism and its commitment to national security. The government has urged all Pakistani nationals currently in India to return to their country promptly, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
