Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has not got relief from the Supreme Court. The apex court, while hearing Kejriwal’s bail plea on Wednesday, August 14, refused to grant him interim bail.
Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi appeared on behalf of CM Kejriwal in the Supreme Court. Singhvi said Kejriwal has been granted interim bail in the Enforcement Directorate case. Citing Kejriwal’s health reasons, Abhishek Manu Singhvi requested the court to grant bail on Kejriwal’s behalf. The court has refused to grant interim bail.
Justice Suryakant has refused to consider Arvind Kejriwal’s bail plea for now. His bail application was heard in the court. He has challenged the CBI’s arrest, on which the Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Central Investigation Agency and asked for a response. The apex court has fixed August 23 for the next hearing of the case.
CM Kejriwal challenged his arrest in the case filed by the CBI in the liquor policy case. He also pleaded for bail from the court.
The Supreme Court is hearing Kejriwal’s bail plea separately in this case. A bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice Ujjwal Bhuiyan heard both the petitions of Kejriwal.
Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was recently released from jail after the Supreme Court granted bail. Chief Minister Kejriwal filed his bail plea two days after Sisodia was granted bail. The Aam Aadmi Party chief has argued that the same should apply to the grounds on which the court found it appropriate to grant bail to Sisodia. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia has been granted bail after nearly 17 months in the liquor policy case.
Chief Minister Kejriwal was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court on 12 July against the arrest made by the Enforcement Directorate in the case, but he is still in jail due to his arrest by the CBI on 26 June. Arvind Kejriwal had petitioned the High Court before the Supreme Court for bail, but his bail plea was rejected there. Arvind Kejriwal was asked by the High Court to go to the trial court, after which his lawyer approached the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court has listed the next hearing of the case for August 23.
