The Supreme Court has refused to immediately hear the plea seeking extension of interim bail of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The court said that the Chief Justice will decide on this. On health grounds, Arvind Kejriwal had filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking to extend the bail period by seven days. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is out on interim bail till June 1 in Delhi liquor scam. They have to surrender on June 2.
Arvind Kejriwal’s lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi had requested the Supreme Court for an urgent hearing seeking extension of Kejriwal’s interim bail by 7 days on health grounds. Abhishek Singhvi was asked by the Supreme Court that when Justice Dipankar Dutta of the Main Bench was hearing last week, then why Kejriwal’s petition was not mentioned? The court said that the decision of this case has been reserved for now. Therefore, the Chief Justice will take a proper decision on listing the petition seeking extension of interim bail of Chief Minister Kejriwal.
On Monday, Arvind Kejriwal filed a petition in the Supreme Court to extend the bail period by seven days. According to the Aam Aadmi Party, Kejriwal’s weight has dropped by 7 kg since his arrest, due to which his ketone levels have increased significantly. An increase in ketone levels indicates a very serious medical disorder. Max’s doctors have told CM Arvind Kejriwal that he needs a PET-CT scan and several other tests. Kejriwal has demanded 7 days to get the investigation done.
Arvind Kejriwal has been granted interim bail by the Supreme Court till June 1 to campaign in the Lok Sabha elections. He will have to surrender and go to Tihar Jail on June 2. Arvind Kejriwal had filed a petition in the Supreme Court stating that his arrest by ED was wrong. The court, while hearing his plea, granted him interim bail till June 1. While granting bail, the court said that Arvind Kejriwal is not a habitual criminal. Kejriwal is currently in Punjab for election campaign. He will return to Delhi on the night of 30 May.
