A formal complaint has been lodged with West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose, urging intervention regarding recent remarks by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, which are alleged to be threats directed at Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari. The complaint was filed by state BJP leader and Calcutta High Court counsel, Kaustav Bagchi.
In his submission, Bagchi contends that Chief Minister Banerjee’s statements constitute a direct threat to Adhikari, potentially undermining democratic principles and the safety of opposition leaders in the state. He has called upon the Governor to take appropriate action in response to these remarks.
This development follows a series of contentious exchanges between the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal. Adhikari has previously accused the TMC government of filing multiple FIRs against him and obstructing his political activities.
The Governor’s office has yet to issue a public statement regarding the complaint. The situation underscores the escalating political tensions in West Bengal, highlighting the fraught relationship between the state’s ruling party and the opposition.
