Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has attributed recent unrest in Nagpur to the film “Chhaava,” stating that it has reignited public anger against Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The Vicky Kaushal-starrer, based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has brought historical tensions to the forefront, leading to heightened emotions.\
The violence erupted following a protest by Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal activists, who symbolically burned an effigy of Aurangzeb, demanding the removal of his grave. Subsequent rumors about the desecration of religious content led to clashes, resulting in injuries to both civilians and police personnel.
Fadnavis emphasized that while the film has stirred emotions, maintaining peace is paramount. He assured that strict actions will be taken against those involved in the violence, highlighting the importance of upholding law and order.
“Chhaava” has been a topic of discussion not only for its cinematic portrayal but also for its impact on contemporary societal sentiments, reflecting the enduring complexities of historical narratives in modern times.
