Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the new GST Bhavan in Udaipur on Friday, located in the Hiran Magri area. The ceremony commenced with the Finance Minister performing an Aarti accompanied by Vedic chants before she officially unveiled the plaque, marking the opening of the GST Bhavan.
The construction of the complex began in 2020 but faced delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “Today, we are pleased to see this office complex completed. This new facility will cater to 13 districts,” Sitharaman stated, emphasizing the importance of information sharing to reduce GST-related grievances.
The newly inaugurated GST Bhavan features a conference hall, meeting room, data analytics cell, library, interrogation cell, and guest house, according to officials. Sitharaman highlighted that small businesses have flourished post-pandemic due to the government’s prompt resolution of their issues.
“Our goal is to ensure that no problems arise from GST-related matters,” she added, encouraging traders to visit the premises frequently and build rapport with the officials. She assured that officials are committed to resolving any issues. The Finance Minister also mentioned that the region is rich in zinc and lead resources, with zinc contributing 27% to GST revenue, alongside significant contributions from the cement industry.
Other major GST contributors in the area include the tyre and calcium phosphate industries. Additionally, small businesses are also playing a vital role in GST revenue generation. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Udaipur MP Mannalal Rawat, Rajya Sabha MP Chunnilal Garasiya, Udaipur Rural MLA Phool Singh Meena, Maharana Mewar Foundation Trustee Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, Udaipur Collector Arvind Kumar Poswal, and other dignitaries and entrepreneurs from the city.
In his address, Mannalal Rawat emphasized the need for round-the-clock efforts to achieve a developed India. He noted the tourism potential in the Mewar region and suggested planning a new satellite town focused on tourism. He also mentioned that Sitharaman’s visit addressed many challenges through detailed discussions with local traders. Additionally, he announced that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has sanctioned approximately Rs 100 crore for the Udaipur-Pindwara highway, as confirmed on Friday.
