In the early hours of Saturday, April 19, 2025, a four-storey residential building collapsed in the Shakti Vihar area of Mustafabad, northeast Delhi, resulting in the deaths of 11 people and injuries to 11 others. The incident occurred around 2:39 am, as captured by CCTV footage .
Rescue operations were promptly initiated by teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Service (DFS), and Delhi Police. By late afternoon, 14 individuals had been rescued from the debris . Among the deceased were eight members of the same family, including four children .
Preliminary reports suggest that the collapse may have been triggered by recent heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in the area . Locals alleged that a dividing wall on the ground floor had been removed without proper reinforcement, compromising the building’s structural integrity .
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident and assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible. She also confirmed that arrangements have been made for the proper treatment of all the injured .
