Adani Group’s first mother ship arrived at Vizhinjam port today, Thursday. This port is India’s first trans-shipment near Kovalam Beach in Kerala. Merck’s ship ‘San Fernando’ arrived at the port with more than 2,000 containers. Merck is the world’s second largest shipping company and has created history by arriving at Adani Group’s Vizhinjam port with more than 2,000 containers.
A traditional salute was given to this gigantic ship before reaching the berth. After that it successfully reached the berth.
The arrival of the first mother ship at the port of Vizhinjam of Adani Group has put India on the table of global shipping business. Globally, this port will be ranked 6th or 7th.
Kerala Ports Minister V.N. Vaswan, Adani port officials and senior officials of the state government were present at Vizhinjam port on this occasion. He welcomed the mother ship at the port. However, the official function will be held on Friday, in which Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbanand Sonowal, Managing Director of Adani Ports and SEZ Limited (APSEZ) Karan Adani will be present.
The mother ship will leave for Colombo soon after the official inauguration. Many more ships are going to come here with cargo after that.
With this, the work of the first phase of the port will be officially completed on Friday itself. A breakwater of 3,000 meters and a container berth of 800 meters are now fully constructed.
A 1.7 km approach road is being constructed for connectivity, which is now almost complete. Apart from this security area, office etc. are also ready and power lines have also been reached.
A special thing about this port is that it is the country’s first semi-automated container terminal and it is being told that it will be a global bunkering hub that will supply clean and green fuels like hydrogen, ammonia. The port is about to begin full commercial activities in a few months.
The second and third phases of the project are planned to be completed in 2028 and the port will be one of the greenest ports in the world.
The port is strategically located with international shipping lanes connecting Europe, the Persian Gulf and the Far East at a distance of just 10 nautical miles.
