Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed at the Kannur airport in Kerala on Saturday morning to take stock of the landslide-ravaged Wayanad and from there he left for Wayanad. A massive landslide hit Wayanad in Kerala on 30 July and 416 people died in the disaster, while more than 150 people are still missing and the search is on.
Suresh Gopi, the only BJP MP to win from Kerala and Union Minister of State for Tourism, is also with Prime Minister Modi.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and top officials of the central and state governments welcomed Prime Minister Modi at the Kannur airport in Kerala.
Prime Minister Modi left for Wayanad along with other people by helicopter. During this, the Prime Minister will conduct an aerial inspection of four villages destroyed by landslides in Kalpetta.
Prime Minister Modi will meet landslide-affected patients in hospitals and some relief camps in Wayanad. More than 10,700 people affected by the landslides are staying here.
After this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a review meeting. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and other top officials will also participate in this meeting. After that PM Modi will return to Kannur Airport around 3:30 PM and from there he will leave for New Delhi.
More than 1,200 rescue personnel from NDRF, Fire Service, Army, Air Force, Navy, Civil Defense etc. were deployed in Wayanad for rescue and relief operations ahead of PM Modi’s visit.
More than 100 ambulances with doctors and other medical staff have been deployed there for medical assistance and treatment.
At Wayanad, the Indian Army constructed a 190-foot long bailey bridge for the movement of heavy machinery and ambulances. The construction of this bridge was completed in just 71 hours. Heavy vehicles and machinery in rescue operations were greatly assisted by this bridge and around 200 people were rescued.
The central government has constituted a committee to visit the landslide affected areas in the state. The team is in Wayanad for the last two days and will complete its tour on Saturday.
