In a significant move to support low-income households, the Gujarat government has provided two free LPG cylinders to approximately 1.60 lakh beneficiaries in Jamnagar over the past year. This initiative is part of the broader implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) in the state.
Statewide, around 38 lakh families have benefited from this scheme, receiving two complimentary cylinders annually. This effort aims to alleviate the financial burden on underprivileged families and promote the use of clean cooking fuel. The state government has allocated approximately ₹650 crore annually to sustain this initiative.
Additionally, the Gujarat government has reduced the Value Added Tax (VAT) on Piped Natural Gas (PNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) by 10%. This reduction has led to a decrease in CNG prices by ₹6-7 per kilogram and PNG prices by ₹5-5.50 per cubic meter, benefiting over 14 lakh CNG vehicle owners and numerous households using PNG across the state.
These measures underscore the government’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of economically disadvantaged sections by ensuring access to affordable and clean energy solutions.
