On January 26, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to India’s fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial in New Delhi, marking the commencement of the nation’s 76th Republic Day celebrations. Accompanied by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, PM Modi laid a wreath to honor the supreme sacrifices made by the armed forces.
Following the tribute, the Prime Minister proceeded to the Kartavya Path, where he, along with President Droupadi Murmu and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto—the day’s chief guest—witnessed the grand Republic Day parade. The event showcased India’s cultural diversity and military strength, featuring fighter jet formations, traditional dance performances, and motorbike stunts by army daredevils.
The National War Memorial, inaugurated in 2019, has become the focal point for paying respects to India’s martyrs during significant national events. Since 2020, it has replaced the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate as the primary site for such ceremonies, underscoring the nation’s commitment to honoring its heroes.
