Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently interacted with beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) to commemorate the scheme’s 10th anniversary. During this event, he engaged in a light-hearted exchange with a beneficiary from Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, who operates a bakery with a monthly turnover of ₹2.5 to ₹3 lakh and employs seven to eight people. When the beneficiary hesitated to disclose his income, PM Modi humorously reassured him, saying, “Daro mat, Income Tax waala nahi aayega,” which translates to “Don’t worry, the Income Tax officer won’t come.”
PM Modi emphasized that the Mudra Yojana aims to empower youth to become self-reliant entrepreneurs, not to scrutinize their earnings. He highlighted that over the past decade, the scheme has sanctioned more than ₹33 lakh crore in collateral-free loans, facilitating numerous individuals in starting their own businesses and generating employment opportunities.
The Prime Minister also noted that women are among the highest beneficiaries of the scheme, leading in loan applications, approvals, and prompt repayments. He remarked that the Mudra Yojana has brought about a silent revolution, shifting societal attitudes towards entrepreneurship and fostering economic empowerment across the nation.
