Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has got a big relief from the Supreme Court in the liquor scam case. Arvind Kejriwal has been granted interim bail by the court in the money laundering case related to Delhi Excise Policy. The court granted him interim bail pending the hearing of the larger bench. During the hearing of this case, the court said that we have also raised questions about election funding and in such a situation, permission to arrest cannot be given only on the basis of interrogation. The matter has been referred by the Supreme Court to a 3-judge bench. ED’s arrest was challenged by Arvind Kejriwal.
ED arrested Arvind Kejriwal in money laundering case on March 21. A lower court had on June 20 granted bail to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on a personal bond of Rs one lakh in the case. However, the very next day, the ED moved the High Court and argued that the lower court’s order granting bail to Kejriwal was unilateral and wrong. Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the CBI on 26 June in a corruption case related to the alleged excise policy scam.
However, even after being granted interim bail, Kejriwal will not be able to come out of jail as he is currently in judicial custody in a CBI case. In the second case they still have to stay in jail and if they want to come out of jail, they have to get bail in that too. It is significant that CM Kejriwal has been granted interim bail in the case being investigated by ED (Enforcement Directorate).
The Supreme Court gave its verdict today. Arvind Kejriwal’s lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi and ED lawyer SG Tushar Mehta were present in the court during the verdict on Arvind Kejriwal’s plea.
The verdict was delivered by a bench headed by Justice Sanjeev Khanna. On May 17, the bench had reserved its verdict on Arvind Kejriwal’s petition. Justice Dipankar Dutta also joins the bench. The Supreme Court had on April 15 sought the ED’s response on their petition challenging Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest in a money laundering case.
Let us tell you that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had filed a charge sheet a few days ago in the alleged liquor scam case in Delhi. ED has made 38 people accused in this case, in which Arvind Kejriwal has been made accused number 37 by ED and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is accused number 38.
Details of WhatsApp chats between Arvind Kejriwal and accused Vinod Chauhan were given in the ED’s charge sheet. Arvind Kejriwal has been accused of channeling Rs 25.5 crore to the Aam Aadmi Party through K. Kavita’s PA Vinod through the Goa elections. It is clear from the chat that Arvind Kejriwal and Vinod Chauhan had a good relationship.
