Aug 23 – In order to ensure the success of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft’s lunar landing, Indian Americans execute religious rituals such as ‘havan’ (fire ritual) and ‘Abhishekam’.
For the successful arrival of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon, members of the Indian diaspora held a havan in a temple in Virginia, US.
Today, Chandrayaan-3 is going to make history by landing on the Moon’s undiscovered south pole.
According to Isro, Chandrayaan-3 will touchdown on the Moon on Wednesday at approximately 18:04 hours IST.

Dr. Madhu Rammorthy feels happy about India’s joinery beyond the earth’s orbit and now on the moon, recalling India’s first rocket launch in 1963 and the popular image of the rocket nose cone wheeled to the launchpad by a bicycle to put a little cargo 124 miles beyond the Earth.
Rammoorthy, who specialises in sophisticated materials for aerospace and defence, operates a component manufacturing company in Bangalore. The entrepreneur also creates a high-strength cloth that is used to reinforce and strengthen things.
“One such part is a rubber gasket that’s reinforced using our material that actually, from what I understand, is part of the Chandrayaan mission. So we are equally invested in this. We’re all keeping our fingers crossed. We’re looking forward to tomorrow, and I’m really hoping that all goes well, and I’m sure it will…” he said.
After the United States, Russia, and China, India will be the fourth country in the world to accomplish this accomplishment, but it will be the only country in the world to land on the lunar south pole.
The Lander Module (LM) of Chandrayaan-3, which includes the lander Vikram and the rover Pragyan, is slated to touch down near the lunar south pole at 6:04 p.m. on Wednesday.
Another guest, Radhika Narayan, expressed her pride in India’s achievements.
“We are watching eagerly every mission that they undertake. And I want to wish them the very, very best. And I’m sure there’ll be many, many more such successful missions,” she said.
A priest at the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Seva Samiti temple, Sai A. Sharma said: “Today we are performing havan for the success of Chandrayaan. We are praying to Lakshminarasimha Swamy and also performing ‘Maha Ganapati Havan’. Due to the blessings of Lakshminarasimha Swamy, this mission will be successful.”
Meanwhile, former Isro scientist YS Rajan shed information on India’s historic lunar endeavour, revealing that roughly 80% of the modifications to Chandrayaan-3 had been completed.
“About 80 per cent of changes are done (in Chandrayaan-3)…They incorporated many things into Chandrayaan-3,” he said.
He went on to say that although the old version depended exclusively on an altimeter to determine landing height, the new version includes a Doppler velocity metre.
This enhancement provides more exact control over both landing height and velocity, improving the mission’s overall safety during descent.
“Earlier it was seeing only the height when it is landing, called Altimeter, now in addition to that they’ve also added a velocity meter called Doppler, so you will know the height and also velocity, so that it can control itself,” he added.
The landing operations will be broadcast live on Wednesday at 5:20 p.m. IST. From 5:27 PM IST on August 23, 2023, live landing actions will be available on the Isro website, YouTube channel, Facebook, and public broadcaster DD National TV.
