The Spring Racing Carnival is one of the most popular events in Australia and certainly the most popular on the horse racing calendar. It begins in September and ends in late November. The ultimate race is the Melbourne Cup which occurs annually on the first Tuesday of November. There are plenty of races throughout the event and there are plenty of potential monetary gains to be had. Let’s delve into the favourites that are among the champions of the races.
Verry Elleegant
With her recent history of successes in Group 1 races in 2020 and 2021, some may think that the Verry Elleegant’s winning streak has come to an end, but there is nothing more thrilling than watching a horse and jockey team defending winning territory. At the current time, Verry Elleegant is holding her position as Australia’s best racehorse with 5 Group 1 wins already this season.
Anamoe
This three-year-old has been showing amazing potential in the lead up to the Spring Racing Carnival. With a win at Ingles Sires in Sydney earlier in the season, Animoe is showing great promise to potentially take the W.S Cox Plate this year, he is featuring highly in the Manikato Stakes tips and even shows potential as a contender for this year’s Everest race. Being trained by James Cummings, the grandson of the legendary late Bart Cummings, only gives Anamoe more of an edge in this year’s competitions and definitely makes the horse one of the top contenders to watch.
Stay Inside
Though there are some great picks in this list, one should never overlook the up-and-comers in horse racing, especially one with such an appropriate name for the season. This 3-year-old bay colt from Australia is showing fantastic potential in the 2021 season so far and is making a name as the one to watch. Stay Inside is becoming well-regarded in racing circles as one of the top sprinters in the country. A horse well-worth watching in the upcoming spring season.
Zaaki
Though Zaaki is now 6 years old, this UK horse still has plenty of fight left in him. As a consistent placer, Zaaki has come out of the gate strong at the beginning of the Spring Racing Carnival with a first-place win already under his belt at Tramway which was run at the Royal Randwick Racecourse in Sydney.
Nature Strip
This 7-year-old Australian chestnut gelding has had an incredible career that has amassed earnings of over $8million. This year, Nature Strip has the best odds to become the winner of the world’s richest race on turf, the Everest Race, held at the Royal Randwick Racecourse in Sydney on 16th October. A win in this race could place the gelding’s career earnings over the $20million mark.
Incentivise
As the running favourite for this year’s famous Melbourne Cup, the 5-year-old Australian gelding Incentivise has already begun his winning streak at Flemington Racecourse for the year in the Makybe Diva Stakes. Does he have what it takes to grab the glory in the race that stops the nation? Only time will tell.
There are plenty of hot contenders for the key races still to be run in the Australian Spring Racing Carnival. As the season has just begun, one needs to watch closely to see which horses will stay true to their favourite status this year and become the ultimate champions.
