The analysis of the Belarusian market of payments by bank cards was carried out by bePaid – one of the largest operators for accepting electronic payments in Belarus. Statistics showed that in 2021, Belarusians sent more than a third of the total amount of payments made through the operator to gambling operators, forex brokers and crypto exchanges. At the same time, traffic analysis showed that first Belarusians study free cricket predictions, and then go to bookmaker sites and place bets.
In 2021, the share of gambling and forex brokers in the total turnover of online payments increased and reached almost 37%. In comparison with the previous year, the indicator increased by 4 percentage points.
If we analyze the number of payments, then the indicator is even more impressive: 53% of all online payments processed by bePaid are directed to the benefit of gambling operators. Alexander Shostak, director of the IComCharge company, which owns the bePaid service, claims that the analysis carried out reflects the situation on the entire Belarusian market. At the same time, Belarusians continue to use mainly Visa and Mastercard when making payments. They account for 45 and 36% of all transactions, respectively. Various wallets are also gaining popularity, in particular – Google Pay and Apple Pay. According to Alexander Shostak, in 2022 the popularity of wallets will continue to grow, as well as the leadership of gambling in the overall structure of online payments.
