The solar eclipse, or ‘Surya Grahan,’ is a significant event for astronomers and science enthusiasts. This year, on April 8, a total eclipse will be visible, sparking excitement among stargazers worldwide. Reports indicate that this eclipse will last longer, darken the sky more profoundly, and feature heightened solar activity, promising a captivating celestial display.
As indicated by NASA, the 2024 eclipse will have an extended duration, broader path coverage, and increased solar activity. This could potentially enable viewers to witness rare phenomena such as coronal mass ejections. Consequently, enthusiasts are flocking to the United States, with flight bookings peaking, eager to witness the eclipse from the air as it darkens the daytime sky.
While cosmic fans globally anticipate this event, unfortunately, stargazers in India will miss out on the 2024 total solar eclipse. However, the eclipse will be visible in several other countries, including the United States, Mexico, Canada, and parts of North America.
As for India, the next significant solar eclipse will occur on May 21, 2031. This annular eclipse, also known as the “ring of fire,” will be visible in cities across Kerala and Tamil Nadu, such as Kochi, Madurai, and Karaikudi. It is expected to cover approximately 28.87 percent of the Sun during its maximum phase.
It’s essential to exercise caution during a solar eclipse and avoid direct viewing of the sun, as it can cause eye damage. Specialized eye protection is necessary for safely observing this astronomical event.
