On World Cancer Day, observed annually on February 4th, numerous individuals have expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, which has made cancer treatment more accessible and affordable. Launched in 2018, this national health insurance scheme provides free coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year, benefiting approximately 50 crore Indians.
Patients have shared their experiences, highlighting the scheme’s impact on their lives. Anil Kumar Sharma, a beneficiary, stated, “Initially, my morale was down when I came to know about the disease, but under the Ayushman Yojana, I was able to get timely treatment. Getting free treatment and essential medicines under the scheme has also relieved me of the financial burden that the disease brings. This scheme has given me a new hope.”
Healthcare professionals have also acknowledged the program’s significance. Dr. Piyusha Kulshreshtha from Delhi termed PM Ayushman Bharat a game changer in providing quality and timely healthcare to cancer patients.
The Ayushman Bharat Yojana has been instrumental in reducing the financial strain of cancer treatment, ensuring that even the most vulnerable populations have access to necessary medical care. On this World Cancer Day, the scheme stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to equitable healthcare for all.
