Budapest (Hungary), Aug 18 – The World Athletics Championships are all set to begin on August 19, 2023, in Budapest, Hungary, where India will aim to make a golden start by winning as many gold medals as possible. India has won only two medals in the last four decades. America has been dominating the World Athletics Championships.
Anju Bobby George created history by winning a bronze medal in the long jump at the World Athletics Championships in Paris in 2003. With this jump, by jumping 6.70 m (22.0 ft) she became the first Indian athlete to win a medal at the World Championships in Athletics. So in the year 2022, Oregon created history for the second time by winning the silver medal in the javelin throw event.
Neeraj Chopra is leading the Indian team at this year’s World Athletics Championships where the athletes will be eyeing the gold medal. This time in the World Athletics Championships, 28 players from India will present their challenge in different events, which is more than last time. However, some athletes are not participating in the World Athletics Championships due to injuries and the Asian Games.
High jumper Tejaswin Shankar, 800m runner KM Chanda, and 20km walker Priyanka Goswami are not taking part in the World Athletics Championships as they are eyeing the Asian Games.
