Copenhagen, Aug 22: It was a mixed day for India at the BWF Badminton World Championships 2023 on Monday as former silver medalist Kidambi Srikanth crashed out in the first round while top stars HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen progressed to the second round.
Prannoy, the highest-ranked Indian male player in the world at number 9, defeated world number 57 Kalle Koljonen of Finland 24-22, 21-10 in a Round of 64 match. Lakshya Sen, who will win a medal in the World Championships 2021 the, had an even easier time on the court, defeating Georges Julien Paul of Mauritius 21-12, 21-7 in his first-round encounter.
However, India suffered a major setback when Kidambi Srikanth, the silver medalist in the 2021 edition played in Huelva, Spain, made a straight-game loss to World No. 15 Kenta Nishimoto of Japan in his first-round encounter.
