Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming has expressed frustration over the team’s recent performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, particularly after their third consecutive loss. He identified the team’s struggle to find the right balance at the top of the batting order as a significant concern. In their latest defeat against Delhi Capitals, CSK’s top order collapsed during the powerplay, losing three wickets within six overs. Despite a strong unbeaten partnership between Vijay Shankar and MS Dhoni, they failed to chase down Delhi’s target. Fleming acknowledged the difficulty in selecting the optimal lineup, especially under the constraint of including only four overseas players. He emphasized the need to improve powerplay batting and suggested a more cautious approach on Chennai’s tricky home wicket.
Additionally, Fleming highlighted the unpredictability of the pitches at Chepauk Stadium, noting that the team has struggled to read the wickets over the past few years, which has diminished their home advantage. He mentioned that the varying nature of the pitches has made it challenging to formulate consistent strategies.
The coach also pointed out that the absence of key players due to injuries and other commitments has affected the team’s performance. He noted that the unavailability of players like Deepak Chahar, Matheesha Pathirana, and Maheesh Theekshana has disrupted the team’s balance and strategy.
Fleming’s candid reflections underscore the challenges CSK faces as they strive to regain form in the ongoing IPL season.
