In a recent IPL 2025 match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Wankhede Stadium, MI’s Suryakumar Yadav delivered a remarkable performance that left teammate Ryan Rickelton in awe. Chasing a modest target of 117, MI was well-positioned when Suryakumar came to the crease. Off his second delivery, he executed a stunning shot, shuffling across the stumps to scoop a delivery from Andre Russell over the fine-leg boundary for six.
Rickelton, who was at the non-striker’s end and had contributed an unbeaten 62 off 41 balls, expressed his amazement post-match:
“I just said to Quinny (de Kock) that SKY (Suryakumar Yadav) is a joke, stuff that I can’t do, stuff that I can’t dream of. He has played that shot many a time, I’m not going to try it but I’m glad that he is in our team.”
During this innings, Suryakumar also reached a significant milestone, becoming only the fifth Indian to surpass 8,000 runs in T20 cricket, joining the ranks of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, and Suresh Raina.
MI secured an eight-wicket victory, with debutant Ashwani Kumar’s impressive 4/24 playing a pivotal role in restricting KKR to 116.
