India suffered a big blow before the second Test against England when the team’s middle-order batsman KL Rahul and left-arm spin all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja were ruled out of India’s second Test. The second Test match between India and England is going to be played in Visakhapatnam from 2 February.
In a statement, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said that Ravindra Jadeja suffered a hamstring injury while batting on the fourth day of the first Test match being played between India and England in Hyderabad. At that time Ravindra Jadeja was batting while chasing the target of 231 runs.
KL Rahul also got injured during this match and now both the players will not be able to play the next match.
The statement further said that off-spin all-rounder Washington Sundar, left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar and right-handed batsman Sarfaraz Khan have been selected by the men’s selection committee in India’s Test team for the Visakhapatnam Test.
The injuries of Jadeja and Rahul are a big blow for the Indian team. Especially when England has increased its lead to 1-0 by winning the first match by 28 runs in the five-match series.
Already the host team is missing Virat Kohli. Because Virat Kohli is out of the first two Tests due to personal reasons and on the other hand, senior fast bowler Mohammed Shami is struggling with an ankle injury.
Off-spin all-rounder Washington Sundar has played four Tests for India, in which he has scored three fifties and taken six wickets.
He played his last Test match against England in Ahmedabad in March 2021, after which he has been recalled again for the Visakhapatnam Test with England.
Left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar was included in India’s Test squad for the home series against Sri Lanka in March 2022 and was called up for the home series against Bangladesh later in the year as a replacement for Jadeja.
Meanwhile, right-handed batsman Sarfaraz Khan has been selected in the Indian Test team for the first time, for which he was waiting for a long time.
Sarfaraz Khan has performed brilliantly for Mumbai in the last three seasons of domestic cricket. Recently, he scored a brilliant 161 runs, due to which India A defeated England Lions by an innings and 16 runs in the second four-day match played in Ahmedabad.
