Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, the 30-year-old Bangladeshi national accused of stabbing Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan in January, has filed a bail application before the Mumbai sessions court, asserting that the charges against him are false.
In his plea, Shehzad contends that the First Information Report (FIR) is “patently false” and alleges that his arrest was conducted illegally, with authorities failing to inform him of the grounds for his detention as mandated by Section 47 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
The incident in question occurred on January 16, 2025, when an intruder entered Khan’s 12th-floor apartment in Bandra, Mumbai. Khan sustained multiple stab wounds during the altercation and underwent emergency surgery at Lilavati Hospital.
Shehzad was apprehended two days after the attack. His bail application argues that all necessary investigative procedures have been completed and asserts that continued detention serves no purpose. The court has scheduled the hearing for April 1.
