Kathmandu, December 30: Nepali cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane has been found guilty of rape by the local Kathmandu district court. This information was given by Kathmandu Post on Friday. Today (Saturday) cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane will be sentenced.
On Sunday, a single-judge bench of the Kathmandu District Court began hearing the case. Nepal cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane was accused of raping a girl by taking advantage of her financial condition. A single-judge bench of the Kathmandu District Court has convicted the accused cricketer in this case.
While concluding on Friday, the court said that earlier it was told that the victim was a minor. But the victim was not a minor at the time of the incident. Lamichhane’s punishment will be decided on the next hearing of the case. At present Lamichhane is out on bail.
Nepali cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane made his T20 International (T20I) debut representing the World XI team against West Indies.
In September 2022, a girl had filed a police complaint against Sandeep Lamichhane. The girl had said in the complaint that cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane had raped her in a hotel room in Kathmandu. During the investigation of this case, the police confirmed from the CCTV footage of the hotel that cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane was staying with the girl.
Lamichhane’s arrest was authorized by the Kathmandu District Court for further investigation. During the arrest period, Lamichhane was scheduled to represent Jamaica Tallawahs in the 2022 Caribbean Premier League, but was forced to withdraw from the 2022 Caribbean Premier League due to allegations of rape.
Following the court order, cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane was released on bail in January 2023.
