Kylian Mbappe is reportedly set to leave Ligue 1 at the conclusion of the current season and join Real Madrid after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires in June. Various reports, including those from Le Parisien and ESPN, suggest that the French forward has made the decision to join Real Madrid, referred to as “the biggest club in the world,” a move that has long been anticipated.
While Mbappe was strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid in 2022, he eventually opted to extend his contract with PSG shortly before the transfer window opened. According to sources cited by ESPN, Mbappe has not yet formally communicated his decision to PSG or Real Madrid but is expected to make an official announcement in the coming week.
Last year, the 25-year-old French captain declared that he would not renew his contract with PSG, which is set to expire at the end of the 2023-24 season, allowing him to leave Paris on a free transfer. This opens the door for Mbappe to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club.
While PSG had contingency plans for both Mbappe staying and leaving, recent weeks have reportedly indicated a growing belief within the club that he would depart. Following Mbappe’s decision, PSG is said to be implementing their Plan B, with sources identifying AC Milan’s Rafael Leao as a potential replacement, according to ESPN.
Since his move from Monaco to PSG, Mbappe has been prolific, scoring 241 goals in 288 appearances across all competitions.
