Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo expressed the team’s dissatisfaction following a 4-2 defeat to Girona on Sunday. Michel’s side dominated, with Barcelona conceding four goals and facing the possibility of more at Montjuic.
Xavi’s team also struggled to capitalize on opportunities in attack, in contrast to their opponents, and find themselves trailing Girona by seven points in the standings.
Araujo reflected on the match, stating, “We were up against a formidable side. We gave our all on the pitch. We need to regroup and focus on improvement. The game is behind us, and tomorrow we will discuss the upcoming match. Currently, our mood is not very positive.”
He acknowledged that they anticipated Girona’s possession prowess, saying, “We weren’t surprised by the possession they had. We knew they are a quality side, and we understood the effort required in this game. They are a formidable team, adept at ball control and exhibit great mobility with frequent positional changes.”
The defensive struggles are a growing concern for Xavi, considering Barcelona only conceded 20 goals in 38 games last season but have already let in 18 goals in just 16 matches this campaign.
