India’s journey at the Paris Olympics will commence on July 25, featuring a contingent of 117 athletes competing in 69 medal events across 16 sports. Leading the way is a 29-member athletics team spearheaded by Neeraj Chopra. In addition, a robust 21-member shooting team will represent India, marking the largest shooting squad ever sent by the country to the Olympics, surpassing the 15 shooters sent to Tokyo 2020, as reported by Olympics.com.
Among the archers aiming to make India proud are stars like Deepika Kumari and Tarundeep Rai. They will kick off India’s Olympic campaign in the individual ranking rounds on July 25, ahead of the opening ceremony on the following day.
India’s first opportunity for a medal will come on July 27 in the mixed team air rifle event at the National Shooting Centre in Chateauroux. Competing in this event will be two Indian teams: Sandeep Singh/Elavenil Valarivan and Arjun Babuta/Ramita Jindal. Additionally, Manu Bhaker will participate in two individual pistol events and the 10m air pistol mixed team competition.
Neeraj Chopra, the reigning Olympic and World champion in javelin throw, will be in action in August. The men’s javelin throw qualifiers are set for August 6, with the final taking place two days later.
Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu will strive for a third Olympic medal in the badminton events scheduled from July 27 to August 5.
Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, who won silver at Tokyo 2020, will compete in the women’s 49 kg category on August 7.
Lovlina Borgohain, a bronze medalist in Tokyo, will compete in boxing events from July 27 to August 10, joined by two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen, who is making her Olympic debut and is a strong medal contender.
India will compete in 16 sports at Paris 2024: Archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, equestrian, golf, hockey, judo, rowing, sailing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, and tennis.
The Olympics will conclude on August 11, with India aiming to surpass its tally of seven medals from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which included one gold, two silver, and four bronze medals.
