Cancún (Mexico), Nov. 3: No. 7 Ons Jabour avenged her Wimbledon loss by defeating No. 6 Marketa Vondrousova 6-4, 6-3 in round-robin play in a rematch of the Wimbledon final.
With this straight-sets win, Jabour Chetumal has reached a 1-1 tie in the group, while Wimbledon champion Vondrousova has fallen 0-2 behind with this defeat. While Ons Jabour defeated Marketa Vondrousova, No. 3 Coco Gauff was defeated by No. 2 Iga Swiatek 6-0, 7-5. With this straight-sets win the group will remain in balance until the final day of play.
Swiatek remains on top after winning the group with a 2-0 record. Due to this Swiatek is a strong contender to qualify for the semi-finals.
Gauff and Jabour are second in the group at 1-1 and Vondrousova is at the bottom at 0-2.
Regarding his next match against Swiatek, Jabour said, “Iga Swiatek is a very smart player and he knows how to adjust to adverse situations. I will try to enjoy the match against them. I will try to play independently. I will try to remove the anger inside me and perform my best. I know this match is not going to be easy, but I will try my best.”
