Mexico, November 8: Poland’s Iga Swiatek defeated Jessica Pegula of the United States 6-1, 6-0 to win the WTA Finals title. With this victory, she has again managed to achieve the world number 1 ranking.
The WTA Finals match between Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegula lasted 59 minutes. In which second seed Iga Swiatek of Poland broke Jessica Pegula five times and won the last 11 games.
According to Xinhua report, 22-year-old Iga Swiatek has become world No. 1 for the second consecutive year by winning six titles out of a total of 17 titles in her career this season.
“The way Swiatek was competing it seemed like she really wanted that ranking obviously,” Pegula said after the match.
Germany’s Laura Siegemund and Russia’s Vera Zvonareva won the doubles title of the WTA Finals. This pair of Germany and Russia won the doubles title by defeating Nicole Melichar-Martinez of America and Ellen Perez of Australia 6-4, 6-4.
