Iran has abolished visa requirement for Indian tourists. Indian tourists do not require a visa to visit Iran with the new policy coming into effect from February 4, according to a statement issued by the Iran Embassy.
In a statement, the Iranian Embassy said that individuals holding ordinary passports are allowed to visit Iran without a visa once every six months and will be allowed a maximum stay of 15 days.
Regarding the 15 day period of stay, the statement clearly states that this period will not be extended.
Visa-free entry applies to persons entering Iran solely for tourist purposes. Indians visiting Iran for educational or business purposes will be required to apply for visa under the respective categories.
It will also be mandatory for those who wish to visit Iran more than once during a six-month time period to obtain a visa.
The statement issued by the Iran Embassy also clarified that visa-free entry will be applicable only to Indian tourists entering Iran by air.
If any Indian tourist wishes to enter Iran via land route from Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan or any neighboring country, they will not be allowed visa-free entry.
Thailand, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam have waived visa requirement for ex-Indian visitors from Iran.
