Congress released its first list of 9 candidates for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. In the first list released by the Congress for the first phase of Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, Congress has given tickets to three former presidents of Jammu and Kashmir, Pirzada Mohammad Saeed, Ghulam Ahmed Mir and Vikar Rasool Wani. Congress has given tickets to Ghulam Ahmed Mir from Duru assembly seat of Anantnag district, Vikar Rasool Wani from Banihal assembly seat of Ramban district and Pirzada Mohammad Saeed from Anantnag assembly seat.
Among other candidates released by the Congress, Surinder Singh Channi has been given tickets from Tral seat of Pulwama district, Amanullah Mantu from Devsar seat of Kulgam district, Sheikh Zafarullah from Inderwal seat of Kishtwar district, Nadeem Sharif from Bhaderwah seat of Doda district, Sheikh Riyaz from Doda seat and Dr. Pradeep Kumar Bhagat from Doda West seat.
Let us tell you that on Monday late night, Congress released the first list of candidates for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. A few hours before this, there was a discussion between the senior leaders of Congress and National Conference regarding the seat sharing in the assembly elections and after that both the parties agreed on the seat sharing.
Senior Congress leaders K.C. Venugopal, Salman Khurshid, National Conference President Farooq Abdullah and Jammu and Kashmir unit President Tariq Hameed Karra held a press conference in Srinagar. Regarding the seat sharing in the assembly elections, they said that both the parties have agreed on seat sharing on 85 seats out of a total of 90 seats. At the same time, both the parties have agreed on ‘friendly contest’ on the remaining five seats.
Let us tell you that, National Conference will contest on 51 seats out of 85 seats, while Congress will contest on 32 seats, CPI-M on one seat and Panthers Party on one seat. The five seats on which the candidates of Congress and National Conference will face each other include Banihal, Nagrota, Doda and Bhaderwah in Jammu region and Sopore in the valley region. Jammu and Kashmir unit president Tariq Hameed Karra said that both the parties will field their candidates against each other on these five seats, but this contest between the two parties will be completely friendly.
Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are to be held in three phases. In the first phase, voting will be held on 18 September on 24 seats, while in the second phase on 26 seats on 25 September and in the third phase on 40 seats on 1 October. The results of the three-phase elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be announced on October 4. Article 370 was abolished in Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019 and after that assembly elections are going to be held in Jammu and Kashmir for the first time.
